Somatic Experiencing

“There are secrets hidden in our flesh. Our cells being born and dying with the same force that makes galaxies form and deconstruct.” Tanya Tagaq

What does your body know?

How does your body speak?

Somatic Experiencing is a well-respected model developed by Peter Levine that relieves the symptoms of trauma, increases nervous system flexibility and attunement, and supports people to connect with their vital, authentic selves. When addressing traumatic holding patterns that show up as areas of tightness or numbness, states of anxiety and depression, low self-esteem, undesired patterns of behavior, etc, it centers the body and nervous system. The primary focus is supporting the renegotiation of thwarted survival energy. With time clients often grow in capacity to stay present for sensations, emotions, and experiences that they might otherwise not have been able to. Unlike more traditional therapeutic processes, with the body on board, we don’t so much need to ‘know’ or understand. Instead, we give the body a voice and listen. The invitation is to feel, yield to, and be with what arises from moment to moment, receiving the body’s cues as information.

What will we do together?

Each session begins with a check-in and identification of what you’d like to be with. Because our curiosity is about the body and the story of the nervous system, I will ask you to pause often and notice what’s happening inside. This noticing is something that comes with time, space, and attunement. You will be supported to recognize more subtle states, learning how your nervous system speaks.

The speed is slow to address different layers and levels of consciousness and create space for emergence. This setting of pace allows for things to surface that may not ordinarily if we use the mechanisms of mind. Connection points can be made that lend themselves to sense-making, poignant insight, and more importantly, experiences of resolution and bodily freedom.

Sessions currently happen via telehealth. Sessions are 55 minutes. Prices are on a sliding scale from $75-135.

  • Expand capacity to be with sensations & the full spectrum of emotion

  • Encounter the body stories, supporting release & awareness of change

  • Regulate & relate to the nervous system

  • Increase self-regulation, orienting & healthier boundaries

  • Complete thwart fight, freeze & flee responses

  • Shift perception of self, other & the world & more
  • Learn tools to stabilize in crisis & track it’s arrival

  • Work with feelings of isolation, low-self worth & a lack of self

Testimonial

“Thanks to Julie’s encouragement and faith in the wisdom of my body, I started finding my own ways of relating to my nervous system’s responses, and perhaps most importantly, I increased my capacity for comfort and pleasure. Julie’s understanding of nervous systems and her patient compassion earned my trust almost immediately. She truly has a gift as a practitioner.”
